10 Tips to raise your confidence before Your Personal Branding Shoot
If you’re here, you probably booked a personal branding photoshoot. Congrats - that’s a great way to elevate your brand!
Preparing yourself both physically and mentally is a great way to ensure the success of your session.
1. FIRST things first: make sure you’ve covered all the bases
Before we dive further into the “nice to haves”, make sure your all set in the “basics” department. I’m talking defining goals, location, wardrobe & such. Here’s an article going more into detail: “Mastering Your Personal Branding Photography Session: Insider Tips”.
2. Manage Your Expectations
While it's natural to feel nervous before a photoshoot, try not to let your fears get the best of you. Entertain the worst-case scenario but remember that your fears are often unfounded. By acknowledging and preparing for potential challenges, you take away their power and can approach the shoot with confidence and ease. Afraid of “bad” pictures? We’ll delete them. Afraid of not “performing well” in front of the camera? Most portrait photographers are used to working with people who have little to no experience in front of the camera and know exactly how to guide you. Don’t worry about it.
3. ditch the comparison game
If you relate to the last question above, then it’s probably because you compare yourself to models or actors, who are trained to perform well in front of the camera. Now why would you? It’s taken them years of practice to be able to move with ease and feel comfortable, so don’t expect that from yourself - it would be unfair.
Focus instead on having fun and let the best version of yourself show up.
4. focus on your best features
Do you know you best side? What are your best features? Tell your photographer about them and make them the star of the show.
Also: search for pictures that showcase your favourite facial expressions. Share these images with your photographer to ensure they capture your best angles and expressions during the shoot.
5. Communicate Your Preferences
Don't be afraid to speak up and provide feedback during the shoot. If there's a particular pose or angle you're not comfortable with, let your photographer know. Effective communication is key to ensuring you're happy with the final results.
6. prime yourself
Ensure your hair looks its best by booking a hair appointment a few days before the photoshoot. Whether you need a trim, color touch-up, or styling session, taking care of your hair beforehand will help you feel confident and camera-ready on the day of the shoot.
7. Treat Yourself to a Relaxing Experience
Relaxation is key to looking and feeling your best during the photoshoot. Treat yourself to a massage or other rewarding experience the day before to help ease any pre-shoot jitters and ensure you're feeling calm and centered on the day of the shoot. It’s also best to clear your schedule on your shoot day, so you don’t have anything else on your mind.
8. Create a Mood-Setting Playlist
Set the tone for the photoshoot by creating a playlist of your favorite songs. Music can help you feel more relaxed and confident in front of the camera, allowing your true personality to shine through in the photos.
9. Practice makes confident
Spend some time practicing different poses in front of a mirror. See if they fit your personal brand, personality and how they make you feel. This will help you feel more comfortable and confident during the shoot, knowing which angles and poses work best for you. Find posing inspiration on Pinterest or Instagram.
10. Visualize Success
Last but not least: take a few moments to visualize yourself succeeding during the photoshoot. Imagine yourself looking confident, relaxed, and effortlessly conveying your brand message. Visualizing success can help calm nerves and increase confidence.
